In the cobbled streets of Antwerp, where shadows dance and the wind whistles, Milan W. (alias Milan Warmoeskerken) is a key figure in the country’s experimental and avant-garde scene. Whether as a member of bands like Flying Horseman or Condor Gruppe, as an electronic composer for labels like Ekster and JJ Funhouse, creating synthpop with Mittland och Leo, or exploring Schlager influences with Gerard Herman, Milan W. offers intimate and varied music.
A usual practitioner of electronic sounds, his latest album Leave Another Day, released on the Stroom label in October 2024, weaves through acoustic guitars, saxophones, and bittersweet melodies. Twelve tracks blending dark country, folk-rock, blues, and indie-pop, with hints of synthetic warmth and a timeless, suspended voice, create a melancholic atmosphere.
Originally, Voice Actor was a radio project made up of 109 tracks, sent over three years to the Stroom label by artists Noa Kurzweil and Levi Lanser. This resulted in the album Sent From My Telephone, released in 2022—a sprawling and fractured sound corpus of experimental library music, featuring seamless transitions between hip-hop instrumentals, lo-fi beats, and collages, all carried by a deadpan voice, the guiding thread of this sonic odyssey. Voice Actor will present their recent project Words at La Bourse de Commerce—an ethereal electronic album, where their music unfurls from a closed center, a sonic wellspring that one melancholically contemplates from afar.
Founded in 2016 and led by Ziggy Devriendt, Stroom is a Belgian label specializing in the reissue of forgotten electronic music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, as well as the release of contemporary music.
