THE GROUND Sessions is a series of performances conceived by Tarek Atoui for Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana that stem from THE GROUND, the artist’s composition currently on view at the 58th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia.
These performances form a diptych and build on one another in the spaces of Palazzo Grassi and of the Teatrino. For each movement, Tarek Atoui uses different instruments created by himself and composes intricate sound environments. The performers invited by Atoui are long-term collaborators and artists with whom he has recently worked on THE GROUND.
The artistic practice of Tarek Atoui brings together music and contemporary art, and explores new approaches to listening through participatory and collaborative performances. In his complex environments, the artist questions notions of performance, collaboration and installation.
