Talk with Edith Dekyndt
Talk with Edith Dekyndt
After Melissa Dubbin and Aaron S. Davidson, Edith Dekyndt is the second guest of the Pinault Collection's residence for artists in Lens. The artist meets curator Caroline Bourgeois for a talk dedicated to her artistic practice.
Born in 1960 in Ieper (Belgium), Edith Dekyndt is an artist known worldwide who lives and works in Tournai and Strasburg (France). After studying Visual communication, she joins the workshop “printed images” at the École des Beaux Arts in Mons. In 1987, she travels to Italy to study Piero della Francesca’s work on geometry and light. At the end of the 1980’s she mainly creates objects that establish a relationship with the surrounding space. In the 1990’s she collaborates with architecture studios and her work underlines the process rather than the result as she leaves objects to be altered by the passing of time. In 1999 she creates the artist collective Universal Research of Subjectivity, a research lab where concepts are elaborated but not always turned into tangible creations. In the last few years, Edith Dekyndt has been using video, photography, installations of objects, environments and sound to catch what is impalpable, invisible and ephemeral.
