In Praise of Doubt
From 10 april 2011, Punta della Dogana presents the exhibition “In Praise of Doubt”, curated by Caroline Bourgeois.
A celebration of ‘doubt’ and of its power in challenging prejudices, convictions and absolute truths: the exhibition opens up to all the possible questions and attempts to cross our personal boundaries in order to rethink how we see the world around us. The show underlines two aspects of the collection: an interest in minimalism and the need to keep on looking towards more provocative works.
Historical and timeless works such as Ed Kienholz’s Roxy are exhibited alongside site-specific works such as that by Tatiana Trouvé; established artists such as Bruce Nauman and Adel Abdessemed are exhibited alongside young and less well-known artists such as Thomas Houseago and Julie Mehretu.
The exhibition is a celebration of uncertainty: a thematic journey through the fragility of the human condition that shakes all sense of certainty, and highlights the capacity of contemporary art to challenge established truths, pushing us to question ourselves about the meaning of things.
