He wrote the essays Guerra. Narrazioni e culture nella tradizione occidentale (2003), for which he was a finalist at the Viareggio Prize, and Televisioni di guerra (2003). Bompiani has published his debut novel Il rumore sordo della battaglia (2006), the essays La letteratura dell’inesperienza (2006), Gli anni che non stiamo vivendo (2010), the novels Il sopravvissuto, winner of the XLIII edition of the Campiello Prize, and Una storia romantica (2007), SuperMondello Prize. Il Bambino che sognava la fine del mondo was a finalist at the Premio Strega 2009.
