Screening of the documentary Breaking the Frame (2012, 100') directed by Marielle Nitoslawska and dedicated to Carolee Schneemann, the multidisciplinary artist who has received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2017.
Breaking the Frame is a feature-length documentary portrait of the New York artist Carolee Schneemann, a pioneer of performance and body art as well as avant-garde cinema who has been breaking the frames of the art world for five decades, in a variety of mediums, challenging assumptions of feminism, gender, sexuality, and identity. Shot over a period of six years, the film captures the artist at home and in her studio and interweaves extensive film excerpts from her groundbreaking film work and documentation of her performances.
The film is screened in the presence of the director Marielle Nitoslawska.
