The Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi presents a cycle of screenings conceived as an archive of documentary films, dedicated to the most important contemporary art exhibitions presented between the 1960s and today. The first three documentaries directed by Jef Cornelis for the collection "Archives", curated by Yves Aupetitallot and presented for the first time in Italy, represent a rare example of audio-visual testimony on the history of exhibitions and a precious tool for curatorial research today.
"Summer of 1966: 33a Biennale di Venezia", 48'. The film presents the 33rd Biennale di Venezia as a circumscribed space inhabited by an artistic community that is confronted with political, social and economic turmoil that marked the international scene at the time. Conference with Jef Cornelis and Yves Aupetitallot.
"Documenta 4 (1968)" tells the story of Documenta 4 - the last edition curated by the founder Arnold Bode - exhibition marked by the controversy and debates, artistic, political and generational conflicts and by the tensions between European and American art.
"Documenta 5 (1972)". The exhibition, curated by Harald Szeemann, was one of the most important international exhibitions of the last decades. Entitled Interrogation of Reality-Picture Worlds Today, it presented works by Marcel Broodthaers, Christian Boltanski, Arnulf Rainer, Claes Oldenburg, Gerhard Richter and Ed Ruscha. Through the film we discover the beginnings of artists who have marked the history of contemporary art. Presentation and screening of the documentary in presence of Yves Aupetitallot and Lorenzo Benedetti, director of SBKM / De Vleeshal.
