Grand Tour is back at Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana with a new edition curated by S.M.A.K. (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst), Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent (Belgium).
How can a museum of contemporary art keep in touch with society? What kind of relations can an institution have with different audiences? How can a museum combine its different roles as a cultural institution, a tourist attraction and a socio-cultural actor? S.M.A.K. shares its history and knowledge with professionals and with the public of Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana.
Grand Tour is the annual appointment dedicated to sharing best practices, ideas and goals among international museums and institutions. After Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, Centre Pompidou and Manifesta 12, S.M.A.K. is the institution invited this year to bring its own activities to Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana.
Programme:
Developing audiences and keeping in touch with society
A talk about museum practices and cultural mediation. Access reserved to invited institutions.
I wish I was my own country so I could be home anywhere - Make Your Own Flag
Open workshop. Participants are invited to imagine and create colourful flags to represent the three most important things in their life. These flags are symbols for real people and values such as love, peace, compassion, family and home. The workshop stems from an activity led by S.M.A.K. with refugees and aims to give voice to those who prefer anonymity.
